India observed International Vulture Awareness Day 2026 at Panchkula on 6 September with a national workshop titled 'From Crisis to Recovery — Conserving India's Vultures'. The official release called for continued creation of Vulture Safe Zones and stronger technical capacity for recovery in the wild. It made an important evaluation distinction: conservation breeding should not be judged merely by the number of birds born in captivity, but by healthy genetically managed populations, useful scientific knowledge, trained capability and contribution to viable wild populations.
