India Electric Mobility Index Shifts the State Policy Debate from Adoption to System Readiness
NITI Aayog launched the second edition of the India Electric Mobility Index at a workshop on State electric-vehicle policies. The official release says 29 of India's 36 States and Union Territories have notified EV policies. It reports broad improvement in index scores: the highest State score moved from 77 to 84 and the median from 36 to 40. The release also notes India's nearly 89% crude-oil import dependence and links electric mobility with economic, environmental and strategic concerns. An index can make differences visible, but a higher score is not by itself proof of cleaner travel or reliable charging.
