A healthy female Badri calf was born on 11 September 2026 after a Badri embryo created through ovum pick-up and in-vitro fertilisation was transferred to a Sahiwal recipient cow. Badri cattle are an indigenous genetic resource and the state animal of Uttarakhand. The work joined ICAR-National Dairy Research Institute, G. B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, the Uttarakhand Biotechnology Council and the Uttarakhand Livestock Development Board. The programme began in 2023, and scientific teams spent the following 3 years establishing ovum pick-up, embryo production and transfer procedures. Oocytes from selected Badri donor cows were collected with ultrasound guidance, matured and fertilised in a laboratory with semen from a selected Badri bull; embryos were then cultured and transferred to synchronised recipients. The achievement demonstrates technical feasibility for multiplying selected female germplasm more rapidly. It is not by itself evidence that the breed's population, genetic diversity or farmer livelihoods have improved. Conservation policy must combine reproductive technology with broad genetic sampling, animal health, accurate pedigrees, habitat and fodder support, farmer participation and transparent monitoring of offspring welfare.

At the 3rd Global Summit on Advanced Materials, Critical Minerals and Metals, the Science and Technology Minister linked critical minerals to energy security, industrial competitiveness and national security. He argued that capability must cover exploration and extraction as well as refining, processing, engineering and manufacturing. Domestic resources should be combined with international partnerships, indigenous technology and competitive benchmarks.
